After School Security - Tips and Reminders

When parents send their children to the program after school, they take for granted that the child is safe. But because the number of children participating in this activity has increased, it is necessary to look at security issues.

Children are vulnerable when they are outside the classroom. When they leave or return, they must know the safest route to take. Many children get along with their friends right after these classes. Find out the 'danger zone' of your neighbors and make children aware of this.

Children must know how to deal with emergencies. It's better to discuss various scenarios with your child. Tell him what he has to do if the class is suddenly canceled. Show first-aid equipment at home and make sure he knows who to contact in an emergency. Post important contact information in a place that is easily accessible to children. If the child will be alone at home, discuss some unexpected things with him. Tell him to use the safety chain ALWAYS.

Turn on your neighbors and friends when needed. Let your child know who to contact during an emergency. Ask your child to check in by telephone. Most importantly, always tell the child to be in a group. Visiting toilets alone or going home through remote roads should be avoided.

Activities After School For Hyperactive Children

ADHD refers to attention-deficit-hyperactivity-disorder. Most children are suffering from this disorder suffer from attention problems and hyperactivity. Parents of these children are well aware that inattention and hyperactivity continue throughout the day. Keeping children busy after school hours can be just as difficult as keeping them safe during the school day.

The first step when choosing the right activity after school for your child is to understand how ADHD affects him. Is your child interested in sports? Does he delay fierce competition, or does he find it difficult to get along with teammates? Does your child voice his feelings, or communication is a problem?

For a child who has ADHD, physical exercise is always beneficial. Exercise requires extra energy and helps stimulate the brain. Team activities teach social skills and discipline. But if your child moves away from team sports, you might want to see activities such as dancing, cycling, swimming or gymnastics. Martial arts not only teaches self-defense techniques but also teaches self-control and patience.

If your child shows reluctance to exercise and shows a tendency towards fine art, you might need to look at a number of other options. Acting class is a form of extraordinary creative practice. It also gives children a wide opportunity to develop their social skills. Music, art, or dance can help children make themselves busy and entertained.

If the child is not interested in the above, you might want him to join a Scout club or other community oriented club that does social work. Cleaning the garden, showing off, helping in an old house are various activities that might disturb your child's interest.

Whatever form of activity you choose, make sure you monitor your child's development regularly. If you feel there is no progress, you may need to change activity. There are certain activities that harm children who suffer from ADHD. Computers and video games are NO. Because this game does not require interaction, children will feel increasingly isolated. These children also find it difficult to distinguish between good and bad messages. Therefore they may show a tendency to stick to messages that are not needed. Games that require children to sit and wait for their turn patiently require patience and will not work.

Even though you want these children to be as close to normal as possible, understanding their needs and limitations will help you choose right after school activities - which are fulfilling, tiring and challenging.

Activities After School For Being Overweight

Research and research shows that our children grow more day by day. Many families throughout America struggle to keep the weight of their children within reasonable limits. As a parent, I knew that it was almost impossible for me to see my child's eyes which were teary and refused food.

So, what's the alternative? Studies show that the number one reason for obesity in children is not junk food and cola. This is actually TV. Children tend to throw themselves on the couch and chew happily when they are in front of the TV. But, after the set is turned off, their natural buoyancy will make children do something and move their bodies. They will then be diverted from eating.

Recreation after school is a must if you feel that your child is starting to add unwanted fat. It's better to start this activity as early as possible. The more weight the child increases, the more difficult he has to work to release it. Football, swimming, skating and Karate are just a few of the activities he can participate in. Structured and disciplined exercises are only possible when someone is put into a formal environment. That's why a child who is overweight just MUST be included in an after school program like this.
